Emergency Departments Under Serious Pressures
Northern Ireland's Emergency Departments (EDs) continue to face serious pressures, according to new figures.
Over 200,000 people have attended hospital EDs so far this year, a 6.2% increase on the same period in 2018.
The Department of Health (DoH) reported that over 71,000 people attended in March 2019, a rise of 3.6% from the same period last year. A 13% increase was also recorded in visits by people aged 95 and older this year, while 4.1% of people left hospital last month before their treatment was completed.
The DoH has apologised to patients, saying that people are waiting too long and highlighting the "serious pressures" on the day-to-day running of EDs.
The Department said it is moving forward with a review of urgent and emergency care, with a health service summit planned on the matter for June which will be followed by a public consultation on a new proposed model.

Around 1,200 People Diagnosed With Bowel Cancer Every Year In NI
Around 1,200 people are being diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in Northern Ireland. The Public Health Agency (PHA) is urging everyone who is eligible for the bowel cancer screening programme to make use of it and to be aware of the early signs of the disease.
