Alliance Welcome Progress On Bangor Queen's Parade Development
Alliance Party Councillor Karen Douglas has welcomed the news that work is getting underway on Bangor's Queen's Parade Development to transform the area for public use.
Bangor Marine was appointed as the developer for the £50 million regeneration project yesterday. Following years of campaigning, Councillor Douglas said the news comes as a much-needed boost for the area. "This is a welcomed development for all who have campaigned to see this valuable community asset transformed, and the heart of the town re-energised," she commented.
"What has been announced today will make a major difference to everyone in Bangor - increasing the café scene, residential and commercial opportunities whilst providing additional outdoor space to compliment the coastal walk and marina close by.
"It is an added bonus that a number of new jobs will be created, both in the construction and in the finalised offering.
"Over the past number of months Bangor's town centre has been hit with more and more negative headlines, as a number of premises have either closed or moved elsewhere. This news today confirms that Bangor Town Centre still has a lot to offer and moves Queen's Parade to the heart of further development across the town."
New Footpath To Create Link To Belfast's Bog Meadows
A new shared footpath link and toucan crossing is to be developed in Belfast, creating a connection to the award-winning nature reserve Bog Meadows.
The scheme will provide a link between the Roundabout and Bog Meadows while opening up the surrounding area for walking and cycling.
Work began on the project on Monday 13 May and is expected to be complete by July.
Lane and road closures will be implemented throughout the scheme.
Police Appeal For Information On Vehicle Hijacker
The PSNI has recovered a vehicle that was involved in a hijacking earlier this week and are appealing for help tracing the individual responsible.
A blue Volkswagen Polo was recovered in the Beechmount area of west Belfast after it was stolen from an on-duty fast-food delivery driver in North Queen Street on Monday evening, 13 May.
Anyone who has information which may help apprehend the culprit is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1611 of 13/05/19 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Bangor Awarded City Status
Bangor has been given official City Status as part of the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours Competition, Ards and North Down Borough Council has announced. For the first time in a City Status competition, an expert panel worked with Ministers to make their recommendations, before being approved by Her Majesty The Queen.

Vote of confidence for NI news services
A study of television and other news sources in the UK has found that only 4% of Northern Ireland viewers are dissatisfied with the provision of local news services. The research carried out by the Independent Television Commission (ITC) and Broadcasting Standards Commission (BSC) found this was the lowest dissatisfaction rate in the UK.
