Possible Link In Belfast Street Robberies
Police are investigating a link between four street robberies in Belfast City Centre this week.
A 30-year-old man was arrested following the incidents on Wednesday evening, 15 May.
The first robbery occurred on the Grosvenor Road at around 10.30pm when a male using a mobility scooter was approached by two men and asked for cigarettes. The victim was assaulted before the pair made off empty handed.
Moments later at around 10.34pm, officers received a report that a man on a black bicycle had stolen a female's mobile phone on Great Victoria Street.
In the third incident, at 10.47pm, a man who was also walking along Great Victoria Street had his wallet and phone stolen by another male, who made off in the direction of City Hall.
Police later received a report that a woman had her phone stolen in Ann Street by a male dressed in a grey tracksuit and riding a bicycle.
Descriptions provided and CCTV footage led officers to a male nearby, who was found to be in possession of four mobile phones and a small quantity of class C drugs when searched. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft, assault and possession of class C drugs.
Police believe that the incidents may be linked and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101 quoting reference 1489 of 15/05/19.
