Safety Appeal As Kids Frequent Lurgan Building Site

Police have issued a warning to parents after reports of children treating a building site in Lurgan as a playground and putting themselves in potentially fatal danger.

Damage was reported to The Hollows development, off Gilford Road in the County Armagh town in recent days.

Images shared by the PSNI show vandalism and various building materials that could potentially cause fatal injuries.

Warning parents to speak to their children about the danger of playing at building sites, a police spokesperson said: "To some children, it looks like a play ground, one which they've set about systematically destroying. It's testament to the foreman that he's actually less concerned about the damage to the site, and more concerned that it could lead to us having to knock your door to tell you your child won't ever be coming home.

"That picture of what looks like a hole is actually an open piece of the work which is a drop the height of several floors! If your child goes down there, it'll be a hearse needed, not an ambulance.

"If your children play in the area, make sure they know the dangers. Building sites are secured for a reason. Aside from the very serious matter of criminal damage which will be pursued should we find someone doing it, they are literally dicing with death playing around there.

"Have the conversation today before you let them out for the weekend. It could save a life."
