Water Disruption As Main Bursts In Belfast City Centre
Properties in Belfast City Centre have been without water this afternoon, 30 May, due to a burst watermain on Royal Avenue.
NI Water staff are currently on site carrying out emergency repair work and redirecting water supply from other water networks. Efforts are also being made to have cars parked at the location of the burst removed.
NI Water has thanked customers for their patience and assured them that they are working as quickly as possible to complete the repair.
NI Public Urged To Take Advantage Of Architect Initiative
Homeowners across Northern Ireland have been urged to partake in an initiative which offers professional advice from architects ahead of the deadline tomorrow, 31 May.
The Ask An Architect initiative sees architects across Northern Ireland volunteer their time to give professional advice to the public in return for a donation to help the fight against cancer.
Famous broadcaster known for Grand Designs, Kevin McCloud has joined the Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) in calling for the public to get involved in the scheme.
Kevin said: "At this time of year most of us get thinking about what we could do with the house - maybe create a bit more space, improve the connection between the inside and outside, or maybe you're thinking it's time to build something new. Whatever your project, now is the time to take action if you want to get some expert advice and at the same time help a fantastic cause through the Ask An Architect initiative.
"Until the end of May you can book a chartered architect to come to your house for an hour-long consultation in return for a £40 donation to the Friends of the Cancer Centre. It's an opportunity not to be missed. You can find out more and book at askanarchitect-ni.com."
Ciarán Fox, Director of RSUA, added: "Feedback over the last few years has been so positive with people telling us that they really appreciated the practical advice and the ideas that they got from their architect. We've had some people save themselves a fortune by realising they didn't need that expensive extension, others have been able to make small changes to their plans that increased the long term value of their property. People are genuinely delighted to get this expert advice with no-strings attached in the knowledge that they are also helping a wonderful charity."
The deadline for booking is 11.59pm on Friday 31 May.
Bookings for the Ask An Architect initiative must be made before the deadline but the consultation with the selected architect can be held in June or beyond at a suitable time.
Finalists Confirmed For Best Small Visitor Attraction In NI
The finalists for Northern Ireland's Best Small Visitor Attraction, a competition launched by George Best Belfast City Airport in partnership with Tourism NI and all eleven local councils, have been revealed.
The attraction or experience from each council area which received the highest number of 'likes' from members of the public on the airport's Facebook page will now proceeding to the final stage of the competition, bringing them one step closer to winning £30,000 of free marketing support and brand visibility at Belfast City Airport.
A judging panel consisting of representatives from across the travel and tourism industry will now visit and score each visitor attraction and experience. Joining Katy Best, Commercial Director at Belfast City Airport, will be Tourism NI's Chief Executive, John McGrillen, alongside Justin Reid, Director of Destination Marketing Europe, Middle East and Africa at TripAdvisor.
The finalists from each Council area are:
• Antrim and Newtownabbey- World of Owls
• Ards and North Down- The Somme Museum
• Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon- Museum of Orange Heritage
• Belfast City Council- Taste and Tour NI
• Causeway Coast and Glens- RSPB Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre
• Derry City and Strabane- Siege Museum
• Fermanagh and Omagh- Erne Water Taxi
• Lisburn and Castlereagh- Clip 'n Climb
• Newry, Mourne and Down- Carrick Cottage
• Mid and East Antrim- Kilcreggan Urban Farm
• Mid Ulster- Todds Leap

Albert Clock restored to former glory
Belfast City Council has completed a major restoration programme on one of the City’s most distinctive landmarks, the Albert Memorial Clock. The £2.2 million scheme, which took more than two and a half years to complete, involved stabilization of the 132-year old monument’s famous lean, and restoration of the tower’s stonework.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.
