Man Dies As Stolen Car Catches Fire
A man has died after the suspected stolen vehicle he was driving caught fire and crashed in L'Derry.
Police have appealed for information following the incident on Fairview Road in the early hours of Saturday 01 June.
A red Mazda 6, which was believed to have been stolen in the Oakfield Avenue area, was reported to have struck a lamp post at around 4.15am. It then caught fire and travelled along the road for a short distance before stopping at the junction of Gallaigh Park.
Police attended the scene, alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, and discovered the body of a man inside the vehicle.
Chief Inspector Jonny Hunter is appealing for anyone who observed a red coloured Mazda car being driven on Oakfield Avenue or Fairview Road prior to the collision or anyone who witnessed the collision to contact officers in Strand Road on 101 quoting reference 316 01/06/19.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.
