Co Antrim Firms Support Volunteer Week
Staff from businesses in County Antrim have been stepping out of their roles to offer their services in support of Volunteer Week, an annual celebration held each June to honour the work of millions of volunteers across the UK.
Volunteers from Danske Bank, NI Housing Executive, Hughes Insurance and DAERA pulled together to help rejuvenate green spaces across the borough, including the Ecos Nature Park and the Antrim Hills Way.
Their combined efforts are Mid & East Antrim borough council's way of paying tribute to those who make sacrifices and work the good of the community all year round.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Maureen Morrow said: "A huge congratulations and thanks to the hard working and dedicated volunteers from across the borough. Volunteers are central to the work of countless charities and other organisations. They are a valuable presence in many communities, making a difference in diverse places."
Volunteering is a great way to boost physical and mental health. As well as helping others, it has been shown to improve well being, and help gain valuable new skills, experiences and confidence.
Rory O'Boyle, Head of NI Carrier Bag Levy Team, said: "In DAERA and through work within the Carrier Bag Levy Team we continue our commitment to making our beautiful country both cleaner and greener. Taking part in Volunteer Week with our environmental partners at Ecos, Business in the Community and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council was a real opportunity to see first-hand the work being done to enhance the NI environment. The volunteering day itself was an excellent opportunity for our team to work together in a different setting, enhance and build relationships and communication and it was a pleasure to support the community orchard maintenance."
