Guns Stolen During Series Of Break-Ins
Two men have been arrested in following the theft of a number of guns from a property in Co Down following a series of burglaries.
The weapons, believed to be deactivated handguns, were stolen during a break-in in Cloughey on the Ards Peninsula. However, police said that guns were found in a laneway in Portavogie, as they investigated reports of further break-ins in the area.
Police also said the thieves caused significant damage to a wall at the home in an effort to access a gun safe. It is understood the thieves also poured "gallons of bleach" over the homeowners clothes and other belongings. Police said that they don't know if this was "blatant vandalising" or if they were "anxious to cover up their fingerprints with bleach and did this in a panic".
Two men, both aged 35, were arrested on suspicion of a series of burglaries and have been released on bail, pending further enquiries.
Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to contact detectives at Bangor on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1214 of 23/03/19.
Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
