Airbus Order Brings Certainty For Belfast Workers

An aircraft leasing company has signed a letter of intent to buy 50 Airbus A220s in a welcome boost for wing manufacturing in Belfast.

The move by US Air Leasing Corporation (ALC) will bring certainty to local workers, SDLP Business Spokesperson Pat Catney has said.

Around 1,000 staff work at the A220 wing factory in Belfast.

Welcoming the news, the Lagan Valley MLA said: "This announcement is good news for the A220 supply chain and for the wing manufacturing operation in Belfast. With an order book of more than 500 units, local workers can plan for the future with some certainty.

"A functioning Executive should seek to build on the immense talents of our skilled workforce with a robust manufacturing strategy to enhance the aviation industry in Northern Ireland. We should always be raising our ambition."
