Suspended Sentence For Benefit Fraud Conviction
A man has been given a suspended sentence for claiming over £6,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.
61-year-old Sean Donnelly of Adair Gardens in Cookstown claimed Disability Living Allowance totalling £6,344 while failing to declare a change in circumstances.
Following conviction at Dungannon Crown Court on Thursday 20 June, he was given two months imprisonment suspended for twelve months.
The money has been repaid to the Department for Communities following an investigation which uncovered the fraud.
Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department anonymously by calling the hotline on 0800 975 6050 or providing information online.

Benefit Frauds Lose Money - But Not Always
New regulations on those found guilty of benefit fraud are to 'deny' claimants benefits for a month - under a new 'One Strike' rule. However, while fraudsters will automatically lose benefit for four weeks, on being successfully prosecuted, a 'Hardship Provision' will apply to ensure that the basic needs of vulnerable people continue to be met.

A man has been convicted of benefit fraud for claiming income and housing support he was not entitled to. Christopher McElroy, aged 37, was given a four month custodial sentence suspended for 18 months at Dungannon Magistrates' Court on Monday 09 December.
