Over 1,400 Arrests For Drink Or Drug Driving
Over 1,400 people have been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol so far in Northern Ireland this year, police have said.
The figures were launched as the PSNI participates in a UK wide anti-drink drive campaign.
Issuing a warning to motorists across the region, a police spokesperson said 1,426 people have been arrested for related offences so far.
Any driver or motorcyclist stopped on the roads, whether it be for speeding, using a mobile phone or committing any moving traffic offence is likely to be breathalysed, a well as anyone involved in a collision or those who police may suspect have consumed alcohol or taken drugs.
"Don't be #1427," the officer warned.
"We will also be carrying out breath tests at authorised vehicle checkpoints at key times of the day and night over the next two weeks.
"Never, Ever drink and drive."
