Thunderstorm Warning Issued For NI

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit Northern Ireland today, Monday 24 June, as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning.

The alert covers the entire region and is in place until 11pm this evening, with some traffic disruption forecast for the evening rush hour.

Whilst some places will remain dry, thunderstorms may break out in certain areas during the afternoon and evening, with western parts the most likely to be affected.

As much as 20mm rain could fall in an hour in some places.

Spray or sudden flooding may lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. Fast flowing or deep floodwater presents a small chance of causing danger to life and the public are advised of possible power cuts.
