Outcry As 'Soldier F' Merch Appears On Amazon
A political leader in Northern Ireland has called on global e-commerce company Amazon to remove merchandise listings relating to 'Soldier F'.
Dozens of t-shirts emblazoned with the words "I stand with Soldier F" have appeared on the site, one of the world's largest online shopping outlets, in recent weeks.
It comes as a former British Army paratrooper faces prosecution for murder and attempted murder during Bloody Sunday, a civil rights demonstration in L'Derry in 1972.
SDLP leader Colum Eastwood branded the clothing "grossly offensive" to those who lost loved ones and urged the company, which allows retailers to list their products, to have them removed.
The Foyle MLA said: "The proliferation of banners across the North supporting a man who shot and killed unarmed civil rights protestors are bad enough. The commercialisation of this sickening spectacle is disgusting and action should be taken to remove the merchandise from retailers.
"I will be contacting senior executives at Amazon to express my serious concerns about the Soldier F apparel that is available on the site and asking that it be removed immediately. It is grossly offensive to those who lost loved ones on Bloody Sunday who should not have to face people wearing slogans supporting a man charged with the murder of their family members."
