NI To Receive Share In £300m Growth Deal

Northern Ireland is to share in a £300 million economic growth deal for the devolved nations of the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson was set to address the funding pot during a visit to Scotland on Monday.

The Conservative party leader is also planning a visit to Northern Ireland to discuss the ongoing talks process, but an exact date has not yet been confirmed.

The £300 million deal will be shared across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the local funding allocated to support growth deals in the south west the Causeway Coast and Glens and to complete a deal for L'Derry.

According to Retail NI, the funding has the potential to cover every part of Northern Ireland with a City or Growth Deal.

Chief Executive Glyn Roberts said: "In my telephone conversation with the new NI Secretary of State on Saturday, I emphasised the importance of rapid progress for implementation of our local City Deals.

"Retail NI has always been the strongest champion of City and Growth Deals as we believe they can be the catalyst for the regeneration of our town cities.

"It is also vital that we have a restored Executive to ensure these Deals realise their full potential."

Northern Ireland has been without a devolved government since power-sharing collapsed in 2017.
