Car hits five children as they wait for school bus
Five children have been treated for injuries when a car struck them this morning as they were waiting for a school bus.
A police spokesperson said that the incident occurred on the Feumore Road in Upper Ballinderry near Lisburn at around 8.30 am.
It is understood that the vehicle was negotiating a corner when it veered across the road and struck the school chidlren.
Police called to the scene took two of the injured to a waiting ambulance. The other three children were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Heavy snowfalls overnight led to difficult driving conditions this morning and the mid-Ulster area was one of the areas particularly badly hit with snow falls of up to six inches in places.
Gritters have been struggling to keep some roads clear of snow as further falls this morning had caused some moderate accumulations.
The Glenshane Pass was passable with care and motorists have been advised to take extreme care on minor and secondary roads.
