Youths Attack Police Vans In North Belfast

A group of youths have targeted police vehicles with masonry and paint bombs in north Belfast, as anti-social behaviour persists in the area.

Parents and guardians of young people living in the New Lodge and North Queen Street areas are urged to warn their children about the consequences of involving themselves in criminal behaviour after the incident on Tuesday evening, 30 July.

Police have since allocated additional resources to the area and appealed for calm after paint damage was caused to their vehicles.

"This reckless, criminal behaviour poses an unacceptable danger to members of the public, police officers and indeed those who are engaged in this activity," a spokesperson warned.

"Local officers are currently examining CCTV footage to identify offenders, who can expect a visit from police in the near future.

"Once again, we have allocated additional resources to the area, including our evidence gathering vehicle and will continue to work with the community, but parents and guardians really need to step up.

"Parents and guardians must warn their children and young people about the dangers and consequences of getting involved in anti-social and criminal behaviour, know where their young people are and what they are doing."
