New Model In Progress For Adult Learning Disability Services
The Health and Social Care Board is seeking opinions from service users and their families as it develops a new model for Adult Learning Disability Services.
It is hoped the regional strategy will ensure that all in need of the service will have access to the support they need regardless of where they live.
The five Health and Social Care Trusts are engaging with adults with a learning disability, carers, staff and those in voluntary and community organisations to seek their views on six key themes: transition, accommodation, care support, health and well-being, assessment and treatment, meaningful lives and citizenship.
Surveys are currently underway to support the discussions and engagement. Anyone with an interest in services for adults with disabilities can access the surveys online.
Peter Livingstone, who has a learning disability and is an Inclusion Consultant with a local charity, is urging everyone to make their voices heard.
"It is very important that people like me, with a learning disability, complete the survey," he advised.
"Have your say. This is about our services and we need to tell people what we like, what we don't like and what we need."
The feedback will be used to form a report that is due to be produced early next year.
Marie Roulston, Director of Social Care and Children at the HSCB said: "We are delighted to be working together with adults with learning disabilities, their carers and staff to co-produce a new service model.
"We are asking what is working well, what can be improved and what do we need to start doing in order to improve the lives of adults with learning disabilities.
"Your voice matters to us so please take the time to provide your views."
Submissions will be welcomed until the closing date of Wednesday 11 September.
