£36k Boost For Lisburn Sports Clubs
A grant programme worth £36,000 has been committed to increase public participation in sports groups in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area.
'Be Active, Stay Active Awards' was developed to prioritise the development of grassroots sports projects which will address the continued under-representation in sport amongst women and girls, people with disabilities and people living in areas of greatest need.
A council partnership with Sport Northern Ireland, the scheme will accept applications from sports clubs, community groups and sporting governing bodies.
Organisations can benefit from up to £2,000 each, money which the council hopes will encourage under-represented groups of people to get active.
Launching the scheme, Chairman of the Council's Leisure & Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley said: "The Council is delighted to be working in partnership with Sport NI to provide funding to groups who play a vital role in tackling health inequalities and improving health and wellbeing opportunities in their local area.
"The awards will support eligible groups as they strive to improve participation levels in sport amongst under-represented groups and in areas of greatest need. It is hoped that this funding will inspire groups to make a real difference in their local area and have a positive impact on the lives of the community."
The current round of funding opens at 9am this Friday, 23 August and closes on Friday 20 September at 5pm.

£400k Funding Announced For Derry GAA

Decision To Cut Funding For GAA And IFA Coaches Reversed
The decision to cut funding for GAA and IFA coaches has been reversed. The Curriculum Sports Programme provides coaching to 40,000 pupils each year and reinstating the programme will save 50 jobs. SDLP MLA Justin McNulty welcomed the decision.
