Rise In GCSE Pass Rates
The percentage of Northern Ireland students achieving a pass at GCSE level has risen slightly.
Pupils received their results this morning, Thursday 22 August, with 82.2% celebrating A*-C grades at schools and colleges across the region.
Learners continued to perform well with a slight improvement recorded in English Language and Mathematics. A-C grades awarded in English increased by 0.5%, while success rates in Mathematics grew by 3.2%.
The gap between male and female performance was also closed further this year, with 1.6% more boys achieving A-C grades, accompanied by an extra 0.5% of females.
The gap between their respective performances has narrowed by 1.1%.
The amount of students entered to sit GCSEs declined this year by 5.2%, with few entries among 15 and 17-year-olds.
Chief Executive of the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) Justin Edwards offered his congratulations to all learners receiving their results this morning.

Man Jailed In Connection With Annahilt Cannabis Farm
The PSNI has welcomed the sentencing of a man at Craigavon Crown Court in connection with a cannabis farm disovered in Annahilt in February, 2023. Clive Weir, from the Annahilt area, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 18 months on licence.

Education Minister Paul Givan has responded to the announcement by several teachers' unions that they plan to ballot their members for industrial action over 2024/25 pay. Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.

NI Remains UK's Top Region For A-Level Grades
Around one-third of A-level students in Northern Ireland received the top grades of A* to A, maintaining Northern Ireland's status as the highest-performing region in the UK for these grades.
