Man Charged Over Co L'Derry Bar Assaults
A man is facing a series charges following a number of bar assaults in Co L'Derry over the weekend.
The 31-year-old was apprehended in Claudy on Saturday night, 24 August, following a disturbance at a bar on church street when he reportedly assaulted a number of customers.
He is charged with criminal damage and possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances after also damaging property in the bar.
Police located the suspect later that evening in a caravan on the Gortilea Road where he was observed in possession of a long barrelled firearm. Officers instructed him to drop the weapon, which he eventually did.
Chief Inspector Donna Bowden said: "I want to take this opportunity to commend the professionalism and resilience shown by officers last night in the face of what was undoubtedly a hostile and very challenging situation."
The suspect appeared at L'Derry Magistrates Court on Monday morning, 26 August, where he was remanded in custody.

Co Down Bar Owner Fined For Selling Counterfeit Vodka
A Co Down bar owner has been fined for selling counterfeit vodka at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court. Mr Patrick Robert Maginn, 55, from Newcastle, pleaded guilty to three charges and was fined £6,000. In a case brought by the Trading Standards Service (TSS) of the Department for the Economy, he was charged under Section 92 of Trade Marks Act 1994.
