Drink Driver Threatens Police Officer
Police have told of how information from the public led to the arrest of a drink driver in County Tyrone.
Tip-offs from several members of the public led to an altercation in the Coolnafranky area of Cookstown on Monday night, 26 August.
A man was arrested for a series of motor offences before threatening to assault a police officer.
A spokesperson for PSNI Cookstown said: "Tonight we were looking for a Black Audi reported driving at speed and performing dangerous manoeuvres around Dungannon. Description of the vehicle was given but caller couldn't get clear sight of the reg.
"Then around midnight one of you stopped a crew near James Street to tell them about a car on the Burn Road that was possibly a drink driver. A reg was given and it soon became apparent it was the same Black Audi from the earlier call.
"Details were immediately passed to all crews and within 30 seconds the car was spotted. Crew turned and went after it.
"Attempting to get away he ducked into Coolnafranky - nice try but he was never escaping.
"Arrested for driving with excess alcohol, stealing the car, no insurance and no driving licence.
"Plenty of bravado followed, on arrival in Custody the delightful individual threatened to break an officers nose.....
"He'll be staying there all night."
Police said the individual is due to appear in court, and encouraged anyone who witnesses any similar activity to contact police on non-emergency line 101, or 999 in the case of an emergency.
The spokesperson added: "Again it's worth repeating, switched on individuals alerting us to stuff that didn't seem right was the major factor in catching this individual. Brilliant job!"
