Belfast Glider Boosts Public Transport Usage
The amount of people travelling by public transport in Belfast has increased by 30% throughout the first year of the city's Glider service.
The distinctive buses were introduced exactly a year ago in east and west Belfast and have boosted passenger numbers to the highest in twenty years.
Despite initial controversy over new bus lanes and increased congestion, the £90 million investment has resulted in over two million additional passenger journeys, fewer cars on the road, reduced congestion and enhanced air quality.
The buses can hold 105 passengers, use diesel-electric hybrid engine technology and operate every seven to eight minutes from over 100 Glider halts.
