Ulster Carpets Delivers £28k Boost To NI Hospice
Portadown-based firm Ulster Carpets has presented NI Children's Hospice with a cheque for an amazing £28,246 following a three year partnership with the charity.
Employees at Ulster Carpets raised the funds by taking part in marathons and hosting various bacon butty, stew and dessert mornings. Last Christmas, employees also ran a raffle and vending machine promotions, which were always a great success.
Group Managing Director and Deputy Chairman at Ulster Carpets Nick Coburn said: "We are delighted to present NI Children's Hospice with this cheque that the employees from Ulster Carpets Ltd have raised, I know that the funding will be a tremendous help to all of the staff and services that are providing daily care for all of the children at Horizon House and in the community."
Jonathan Lamberton, Corporate Engagement Executive at NI Children's Hospice, added: "This incredible donation from the employees of Ulster Carpets is fantastic to receive. It is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the team with people from right across the entire organisation involved in a range of fundraising and volunteering activities. Receiving such a significant donation is amazing and will make a big difference in our ability to care for children and young people living with a life-limiting illness."
New Book Captures North Coast Folklore
Folklore and stories of the supernatural from across the Causeway Coast and Glens have been captured in a new book.
The free publication entitled 'Lore of the Land' is the result of a partnership between Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's Museum Services and Clanmil Housing Association. Through a programme of reminiscence sessions, art workshops and historical site tours, the initiative focused on the Borough's folklore as a way of better understanding our area.
The initiative is part of Council's PEACE IV Local Area Action Plan, funded by the European Union's PEACE IV Programme with £3.8 million for community projects across the borough.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Sean Bateson said: "The project encouraged participants to share stories that have been passed down from generation to generation, as well as their own personal experiences. From Binevenagh to the Bann Valley, and from Dungiven to Cushendall, 'Lore of the Land' captures the folklore, supernatural, and stories of the unexplained from the Causeway area in the 20th and 21st century."
The book is available for free and can be picked up at Visitor Information Centres across the area, or by contacting Museum Services at cms@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk.
A digital copy of the publication is available by searching the title on the Northern Ireland Community Archive www.niarchive.org
