NI School Principals To Vote On Strike Action
A number of school principals in Northern Ireland are set to vote on strike action.
The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) union is balloting its members, including many local school heads, to gather support for industrial action.
The ballot will be open for two weeks, closing on 30 September.
NAHT(NI) president Geri Cameron has called on all members to complete the ballot.
"It is time for action," he said. "Today, members will be sent ballot papers to their home address and they must indicate if they are willing to participate in strike action and action short of strike.
"I would encourage every member to complete the ballot and return it as soon as possible before the deadline.
"Any action taken by NAHT(NI) members will be directed towards the employers who have failed to end the dispute which focuses on workload, the inspection process, consultation and support for schools. We will work towards minimising any impact upon learners and their families.
"NAHT(NI) remains open to further negotiations with the employers to find a resolution that will positively impact on the work-life of school leaders."
