Pensioner Hospitalised Following Robbery In North Belfast

A woman in her 80s was taken to hospital after being pushed to the ground in a robbery in North Belfast.

The incident happened near the Cliftonville Circus area of the Oldpark Road at around 7.25am on Saturday, 14 September.

According to police, the lady in question was leaving a shop when she was pushed to the ground by a young man, who then fled with her handbag and shopping bag.

The woman sustained a bump to her head, and was left traumatised after the ordeal.

Inspector Adam Corner thanked a member of the public for helping with the investigation.

"I'm keen to thank the member of the public who immediately reported this incident to us. Thanks to prompt action, we were able to make an arrest shortly afterwards and the lady's belongings have been recovered.

"A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including robbery. He remains in custody, assisting us with enquiries.

"Our enquiries are continuing, and I am appealing to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 473 of 14/09/19."

Teenager pushed off pier in 'happy slapping' incident
A 15-year-old boy was pushed off a pier during a “happy slapping” incident in Bangor, it has emerged. The teenager had been playing with a ball near Bangor marina when he was attacked from behind and shoved off the pier by a group of drunken youths whilst the attack was recorded on mobile phones.
