Antrim Security Alert An Elaborate Hoax
A suspicious object that sparked a security alert in Antrim on Monday evening has been declared an 'elaborate hoax'.
Significant disruption was caused in the local community, with homes evacuated shortly before 7pm until the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 17.
Police enquiries are ongoing after the object was found on the Dublin Road facing Antrim PSNI station by a member of the public.
The area was then cordoned off, roads closed and nearby residents evacuated from their homes.
The operation continued for a number of hours before the object was declared a hoax, with roads reopened and residents permitted back into their homes by 2.30am.
The suspicious device has been taken for further examination.
Detective Inspector Neil Patton issued an appeal for information: "This alert caused considerable disruption to local residents and road users in Antrim and I would like to thank anyone affected for their patience whilst we worked to ensure their safety.
"We are now carrying out an investigation into this incident and I would ask anyone who was in the Dublin Road area of Antrim on Monday and who noticed any suspicious activity to contact detectives in Antrim on 101 quoting reference number 1932 16/09/19."

Suspicious Object Found In Co Antrim Declared A Hoax
A suspicious object found in Co Antrim has been declared a hoax. The Mill Road in Newtownabbey has been reopened. Elsewhere, a suspicious object discovered on the Lisburn Road in south Belfast was also declared a hoax. The road reopened at around 4.20am on Wednesday, 13 July. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
