DUP 'Cannot Support' New Brexit Plan
The Prime Minister's revised Brexit plan for Northern Ireland is facing significant hurdles already as the DUP says it "could not support" it.
Commenting on the proposals on Thursday morning after a day of talks at Number 10, Party Leader Arlene Foster MLA and Nigel Dodds MP identified three major obstacles.
"As things stand we could not support what is being suggested on customs and consent issues and there is a lack of clarity on VAT," their statement read.
"We will continue to work with the Government to try and get a sensible deal that works for Northern Ireland."
The disapproval is perceived as a major blow for Boris Johnson as he heads to the crunch EU summit in Brussels with hopes of returning with a deal.
Support of the DUP is seen as crucial for Parliament to approve the deal in time for the 31 October deadline.
Sinn Fein have reiterated their view that a veto on the Northern Ireland plans cannot be included in the deal.
Michelle O'Neill tweeted: "The price of Brexit to our peace and to our economy is too big not to get deal done. A deal which reflects our special and unique circumstances is a must- No border & No veto."
