Jobs Boost As Tim Hortons Opens Second Drive-Thru Restaurant
Canadian coffee giant Tim Hortons is set to open its third outlet and second drive-thru in Northern Ireland.
Following the success of its City Centre store and drive-thru at Connswater in east Belfast, a new branch will be opened on Glengormley's Antrim Road later this year.
Recruitment is now underway for 40 new team members, including a host of shift manager roles.
Construction Work Begins At Belfast Train Station
A project has been launched to replace a dated pedestrian bridge at one of Belfast's busiest train stations.
The work at the City Hospital Halt will see the demolition and removal of an existing pedestrian footbridge and steel supports, with local contractor GRAHAM delivering the project on behalf of Translink.
Project Manager for the firm, Sam Barr said the work will help to maintain easy access from the station to the City Hospital and the Donegall Road.
"Throughout this scheme, we will work in close collaboration with Translink to allow passengers access to and from the station, and also to avoid disruption to any scheduled rail services," Mr Barr explained.
"The adoption of our foundation solution will lessen impact on passengers, the City Hospital and Donegall Road residents as well as reducing the overall duration of, and cost of, the works.
"Once complete, this new footbridge will benefit passengers and improve the overall appearance of the railway halt."
Helen Halliday, Translink Project Manager, added: "This important project to replace the dated existing bridge is required to maintain high safety standards, as well as the safety of those who regularly use the bridge for commuting purposes.
"As one of the busiest stations, the new bridge will greatly enhance the appearance of the station and help to keep the local area connected to the wider NI Translink network.
"We will be working closely with our contractors to keep potential noise and disruption to a minimum. We look forward to working with GRAHAM to deliver this project as we continue our journey to make public transport 'first choice for travel'."
Carrickfergus Reservoirs Upgraded In £160k Project
Two reservoirs in the Carrickfergus area of County Antrim have been successfully upgraded through a £160,000 investment.
NI Water completed the project, which saw Woodburn South and Loughmourne Reservoirs improved with new walking paths, fishing stands, and upgraded access for the public.
These works form part of a major programme of improvement works which has been underway since 2015 to upgrade and improve facilities at a number of locations throughout Northern Ireland.
David McClean, NI Water Project Manager, said: "NI Water is delighted to complete this extensive programme of work at Woodburn South and Loughmourne reservoirs, which will provide long reaching benefits for the local community. The completion of the scheme will bring improved access for the public while enhancing the recreational experience for all users of the reservoirs."
The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Council, Councillor Maureen Morrow added: "I welcome this investment in the Carrickfergus area which is a great opportunity for the local community and beyond to make the most of the fantastic facilities on our doorstep here at the reservoirs. This is a great public amenity as well as being an important source of our drinking water."
