NI Man Charged Over 39 Trailer Deaths
A second man from Northern Ireland has appeared in court on charges connected to the mass fatality discovered in a lorry container in Grays, Essex last week.
Eamon Harrison from Mayobridge in Co Down is charged with 39 offences of manslaughter, as well as human trafficking and immigration offences.
The 23 year-old appeared before the High Court in Dublin today, Friday 01 November and was remanded in custody.
A European Arrest Warrant was also executed today as Essex Police commence extradition proceedings to bring him from Ireland to the UK.
The news comes hours after the investigation lead appealed to Armagh brothers Ronan and Christopher Hughes to hand themselves in. The pair are wanted on suspicion of manslaughter and human trafficking offences and police confirmed they have spoken to Ronan, aged 40, by telephone.
The 31 men and eight women were found dead in the refrigerated lorry in an industrial park in Essex on the morning of Wednesday 23 October. Police initially believed the victims were Chinese nationals, however efforts to identify them have become focused on the Vietnamese community. The huge international investigation continues.
