NIFRS Celebrates 'Selfless' Employees
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has celebrated the vital contribution firefighters make in protecting their communities.
The service delivered by longstanding employees and those who have gone above and beyond in their role was recognised in a ceremony at the Lagan Valley Island Centre in Lisburn on Tuesday 12 November.
Members of staff who have completed 20 years and 40 years service were presented with Long Service Medals, while teams who carried out particular acts of bravery in the past year received commendations. Particular individuals who exceeded their job expectations were also honoured with Employee Awards.
The 20 Year Long Service and Good Conduct Medals were presented by the Queen's Representative, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Tyrone, Robert Lowry Scott OBE.
Interim Chief Fire & Rescue Officer Michael Graham said: "Day in, day out, our people work diligently to protect the community and it's important that we take time to recognise and celebrate the individuals and teams across Northern Ireland who put 'service' before 'self'.
"Every colleague receiving their Employee Award, or Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, has made an important contribution to our organisation and the service we provide to the public. As Chief Fire & Rescue Officer, it is my privilege to publically recognise them and to thank them for their dedicated years of service to NIFRS and their contribution to protecting our community.
"I believe that the service we provide is only as good as the people we have. At our ceremony we were able to recognise the contribution made to public safety by our exemplary Wholetime Firefighters, On-Call Firefighters, Regional Control Centre Colleagues and our Support Staff."

Education Minister, Paul Givan, has announced the opening of online applications for the Targeted Early Years Pathway Fund for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 academic years. The Pathway Fund, introduced in 2016, aims to provide early years education services for children aged 0-4 who may be at risk of falling behind in their education.

Bonfire Call-outs Reduced As Advice Heeded
Emergency call-outs to traditional pre-Twelfth eleventh night bonfires have reduced by almost two thirds in the past three years. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) believes this is because their safety message getting through. Chief Fire Officer Peter Craig (pictured) said: "I think it is down to education.
