DUP Urged To Condemn Belfast Hate Banners
The DUP is under pressure to condemn the appearance of banners targeting General Election candidates John Finucane and Claire Hanna in Belfast.
It's understood the banners, which display allegations about the Sinn Fein candidate for North Belfast John Finucane, and the SDLP's South Belfast candidate Claire Hanna, have been reported to police.
SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood said the DUP must "clearly condemn" the signs.
"The banners that have been erected in Belfast targeting John Finucane and Claire Hanna seeking to sow hatred and division are disgusting," the Foyle MLA and Westminster candidate said.
"Those responsible are cynically using, abusing and retraumatising victims for narrow political purposes.
"Those responsible for these banners, and those defending them from behind a computer screen, are attempting to divide our communities further. They want to balkanise and control us. They cannot be allowed to win.
"Parties must make a clear statement rejecting these banners and those who put them up."
Mr Eastwood concluded: "The DUP, in particular, must clearly condemn this. Meek rejection from party spokespeople is not enough."
One particular sign targeting Mr Finucane was removed by Belfast City Council officers with police support in the loyalist Tigers Bay area on Monday.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.
