Warning Over Spate Of Opportunistic Burglaries
Home owners and residents in Co Down are advised to prioritise their home security amid a spate of "opportunistic" burglaries.
Incidents in the Hillhall area of Lisburn and Comber Road/Galway Park areas of Dundonald have been reported in recent days.
A PSNI spokesperson warned: "These seem to have been opportunistic thieves trying door handles and looking for open windows.
"Please do not make yourself an easy target. Lock and secure your homes.
"The festive period often sees an increase in this type of crime. We are working tirelessly to target criminals and would ask you to please make sure your homes are locked and secure and if you see any person's or vehicles you find suspicious particularly during the hours of darkness that you report it on 101 or on 999 in an emergency."
Appeal As Power Tools Stolen In Omagh
Police have issued an appeal after a quantity of power tools were stolen in Co Tyrone.
Details have emerged of the theft in Drumquin sometime between 5pm on Friday 29 November and 7am on Monday 02 December.
The stolen tools are as follows:
• Yellow welder 12"x6"
• Turquoise Makita 9" grinder
• Red/Black Milwaukee 4" grinder
• Red/Black Milwaukee cordless drill
• Red/Black Milwaukee impacter drill
They were taken from a residential property.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Drumquin area at this time and noticed anything suspicious to make contact.
If you have any information as to the whereabouts of these tools, or have seen them for sale in suspicious circumstances, make contact via 101, quoting reference number CC635 of 05/12/19.
Farrans To Begin Water Mains Works In Ballymena
Water works are set to take place in the Ballycowan Road area of Ballymena early next year.
Farrans Construction will work with NI Water to deliver pipelaying works in January. These works will improve the quality, security and flexibility of the water supply, as well as reducing leakage and improving pressure.
This project forms part of a major investment programme to upgrade the watermains infrastructure throughout Northern Ireland.
A 'drop-in' information session will take place on Monday 16 December, 4pm to 6pm, in Connor and Kells Community Centre, Glenaan Park, Kells, BT42 3JX, to discuss the works and upcoming schemes including Ballycowan Road, Steeple Road and Ferniskey Road.
Further updates and signage will be available in the New Year.

Unofficial strike action affects postal deliveries
Postal deliveries across Belfast have been affected today following unofficial industrial action by Royal Mail workers in the Toome Street depot. The strike is believed to have occurred when overtime payment was demanded for work that managers claimed could be done in normal hours. When this was refused 250 staff walked out.

Research places NI bottom of home working table
TUC research of regional trends of home working using previously unpublished data from the Labour Force Survey has revealed that Northern Ireland has the UK’s lowest percentage of people working from home. The data indicated that only 15,000 workers – just 2.6% of the working population – are based at or usually work from home.
