Arrest As Cannabis Worth £210k Seized In Belfast
A 49 year-old woman has been arrested after police in Belfast seized cannabis worth an estimated £210,000.
The significant discovery came after a call from a concerned member of the public who reported suspicious activity straight away.
Local police recovered a package containing cannabis worth around £120,000 in the Knocknagoney area of east Belfast, and a further £8,000 in cash and £90,000 cannabis during a search of a property off Victoria Street in Belfast City Centre.
The woman was arrested when a vehicle was stopped just off the Newtownards Road in east Belfast on Tuesday afternoon, 10 December.
The discovery comes amid operation Season's Greetings, a PSNI initiative to tackle street level drug dealing.
Chief Inspector Christian Bradley said: "We are all too aware of the devastating effect that drugs have on individuals, their families and communities.
"In the run up to Christmas we are sending a clear message that there is no space for illegal drug activity in our communities. Over the coming weeks we will be continuing operations focused on removing drugs from our streets and targeting drug dealers.
"Information from the public played a central role in helping us to target this operation and identify those responsible for drugs activity on our streets. You know your own area and you know what happens within it."
Anyone with suspicions about drug dealing in their local area is urged to contact police on 101. Information can also be provided anonymously by dialling the Crimestoppers anonymous line on 0800 555 111.
