Man Stabbed In Co Antrim

A man has been hospitalised after he was stabbed in an incident in Co Antrim.

Police are investigating a link between the stabbing in Newtownabbey on Sunday Morning, 15 December, and a road traffic collision in the area.

Officers were called to the Whitewell Crescent area of the town at around 3.05am. A man in his forties who reported that his car had been damaged came on the scene and sustained an injury to his shoulder. He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

Detectives are following a number of lines of enquiry into the attack, including that it may be linked to a road traffic collision on Whitewell Road in the town shortly before 4am. A car, a red Ford Focus Zetec, was found overturned at the scene.

A 25 year-old man was arrested for offences including dangerous driving and was subsequently street bailed after being treated at hospital for leg injuries.

Inspector Anne McCourt said: "I want to make a number of appeals this morning to establish exactly what occurred and the circumstances of how the victim was injured.

"Were you in the Whitewell Crescent area last night between 3.30am and the time the incident was reported to us? What did you see? Did you witness this assault?"

Anyone who saw anything or captured the collision on dash cam is urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 443 of 15/12/19.

Details can also be provided anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
