Man Injured In L'Derry Street Robbery
A man in his 60's suffered facial injuries in a "nasty" street robbery in L'Derry, police have said.
The victim was targeted in the John Street area of the city at around 1.30am this morning, Wednesday 22.
It's reported that he was approached by a suspect who demanded his wallet and phone before punching him in the face.
The assailant made off with his rucksack and mobile phone leaving the victim with facial injuries that required hospital treatment.
Police have since arrested a suspect, aged 30, on suspicion of offences including robbery. He remains in custody this morning.
Detective Sergeant Gavin McLaughlin condemned the incident, saying: "This was a nasty attack and our investigation is underway to identify the perpetrator.
"I want to appeal to anyone who was on John Street at around 1.30am this morning and who may have witnessed the incident to contact us."
Police have also advised anyone who believes they saw the suspect to come forward. He is described as around 6'2" tall and with short dark hair, and wore a red and white wool hat with a 'Coca Cola' logo printed on it. It's believed he spoke with a local accent.
Detectives can be contacted via non-emergency line 101 quoting reference 67 of 22/01/20 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
