Shock As Driver Escapes Car Wreck

Police have told of their shock after a driver walked away unscathed from a collision that left their vehicle destroyed.

Pictures emerged of the wreck left from the crash on the Hydepark Road in Newtownabbey at around 1am on Thursday morning, 23 January.

A PSNI spokesperson hailed it "miraculous" that everyone managed to walk away and pleaded with drivers to adjust amid the ongoing wintery road conditions.

"Please, please adjust your driving for the conditions," the representative said.

"Slow down. It's January which means that it's dark in the mornings and dark in the evenings. Some of our roads are extremely greasy and there has been a heavy fog in parts for most of this week during the night and into the early morning.

"With driving you not only have a responsibility for yourself, but for your passengers, other road users and pedestrians."

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and have appealed for anyone with information to contact police on 101 quoting reference 85 of 23/1/20.
