Brexit Work Starts Now- Retail NI
Northern Ireland will now begin to navigate the challenges presented by Brexit, Retail NI has said.
'The hard work begins now' is the message of retail and business chiefs in the initial days after the UK officially left the EU on Friday 31 January.
"Brexit day should not be about celebration," warned Glyn Roberts of Retail NI.
"Instead the focus should be on the hard challenges that lie ahead for Northern Ireland and its economy.
"It is absolutely vital that the UK secures a free trade agreement with the EU over the next eleven months- a massive challenge given that the average time to conclude a trade deal is four years.
"We have a huge task ahead to avoid lengthy delays, paperwork and processes on trade between GB and NI. It is vital for retailers and consumers that the 'just in time' supply chain is as frictionless as possible."
Mr Roberts said it is crucial that the NI Executive maintains its office in Brussels to ensure continued cooperation with the EU to the benefit of the local economy.
Dungannon Leisure Centre Reopens
Dungannon's new-look leisure centre has officially opened its doors to the public.
This £1.8 million project has seen upgrades delivered on the centre's swimming pools, fitness suite, changing facilities and reception area.
Renovations to the pool include new tiling, pool linings, surrounds, plant, filters and structural work, while the gym has been refurbished and fitted out with a completely new range of modern fitness equipment. The centre's squash court has also been revamped.
Additional lighting and car parking spaces have been installed at the front of the centre.
Speaking at the reopening of the centre over the weekend, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Martin Kearney said: "We are delighted that Dungannon Leisure Centre is reopening after its extended closure for essential structural and refurbishment work. We know that the Dungannon public have been waiting very patiently for the reopening, and we hope that in revitalising the Centre, users have the opportunity for not only an improved experience but gain motivation to become more active, more often in the new surroundings."
