Family Escape Injury In Dungannon Petrol Bomb Attack

A young child and a baby are among those who escaped injury after petrol bombs were thrown at a house in Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

Two males aged 15 and 34 are in custody after the incident in the Killymaddy Hill area on Sunday night, 09 February.

Police were tasked to the scene shortly after 9pm following reports of two men outside the house, one of whom was believed to have been armed with a knife.

It's understood a petrol bomb was launched at the property and a garden bench used to ram the front door, breaking a pane of glass. A second petrol bomb was then thrown inside the house.

A 15 year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. The 34 year-old is suspected of various offences that include possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Both remain in custody.

Police are working to establish a motive for the attack after the occupants were left terrified.

A man, woman, a young child and a baby were inside the house at the time.

Detective Sergeant Robinson said: "This was a reckless attack which could have had a devastating impact, resulting in serious injury or worse."

Anyone who was in the Killymaddy Hill area of Dungannon at around 9pm on Sunday evening and recalls witnessing anything out of the ordinary is urged to call detectives on 101 quoting reference 1402 of 09/02/2020.

Those with information can also call Crimestoppers, which is anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
