L'Derry Posters Designed To Intimidate- Sinn Fein
A series of posters have appeared across L'Derry in an attempt to intimidate the people of the city, Sinn Fein's Martina Anderson has said.
Police say the "cruel and disgusting" displays, which feature an image of Peadar Heffron, an officer injured in a bomb attack by anti-peace process elements, are the work of those who fear a fully representative police service.
It comes just a day after deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill revealed she had been made aware of dissident republican plans to attack her and her party colleague Gerry Kelly. The Sinn Fein representatives made history last week with their attendance at a PSNI recruitment event.
Foyle MLA Martina Anderson also connected the posters to attempts to intimidate a local journalist and threats to staff at the Andersonstown News in west Belfast.
"Everyone should have the right to choose their career path free from any fear or intimidation," she said.
"Those responsible for erecting these posters have nothing to offer, they have no politics and no strategy to achieve anything.
"It's well past time they got off the backs of the community.
"This tactic is disgusting and disgraceful and comes and comes from an unrepresentative groups with little support in the community."
PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Mark Hamilton also condemned the posters, saying: "The cowards who hide behind this fake rhetoric and who ridicule the resolve, commitment and bravery of every person who works every day to keep each of you safe, have nothing to offer our society and should be condemned by all right thinking people.
"I would urge anyone who comes across these posters, either online or physically, not to share or circulate this material further."

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.

Detectives in Belfast are investigating a suspected arson attack on a 5G mast in the Andersonstown Road area. The incident occurred around 9.55pm on Wednesday, November 13th. Detective Sergeant Faulkner confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who successfully extinguished the blaze.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast
Four men have been arrested following public disorder incidents in the university area of south Belfast on Thursday, November 14th. Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

Police discovered the criminal activity last night, Tuesday 09 April, after stopping a suspicious looking vehicle in Portrush. Stolen election posters were found in the vehicle and four people were ordered to court for theft and criminal damage offences.
