21 People Tested For Coronavirus In NI
Some 21 individuals have been tested for coronavirus in Northern Ireland, the Public Health Agency has revealed.
Providing an update into the global health emergency on Wednesday, health chiefs said all 21 tests were confirmed as negative.
Elsewhere, around 45,000 cases have been confirmed globally, with the number of deaths in mainland China reaching 1,115.
Local health officials are therefore continuing to put comprehensive arrangements in place to manage the Covid-19 outbreak.
A helpline has been established for anyone in Northern Ireland who has travelled to China, Thailand, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Macau in the past 14 days.
As always, the 'catch it, bin it, kill it' guidelines for dealing with cold and flu symptoms remain.
The Belfast Trust's Regional Viral Laboratory is among a total of 12 centres testing for novel coronavirus in Northern Ireland.
Dr Gerry Waldron, Head of Health Protection at the PHA, said: "The Public Health Agency is working with partners across the UK including Public Health England, as well as the Department of Health and health trusts in Northern Ireland, and the health service in the Republic of Ireland, on the ongoing global novel coronavirus response.
"Always carry tissues to catch your cough or sneeze, dispose of the tissue as soon as possible after using it, and clean your hands as soon as you can as germs can spread to every surface you touch."
The helpline number is 0300 200 7885. The line is available 24/7.

Health Minister Robin Swann has announced funding of more than £260,000 has been awarded to The Rainbow Project and HERe NI, from the Mental Health Support Fund. The fund was established by the Health Minister to enable charities and organisations across Northern Ireland to enhance the vital mental health support and help on offer.

A total of 35 tests for suspected coronavirus have been carried out in Northern Ireland, the Public Health Agency has said. No cases have been confirmed in the region with all tests coming back as negative as of today, Tuesday 19 February.
