Man Charged With Murder Of Lyra McKee

A 52 year-old man has been charged with the murder of Lyra McKee.

The suspect is due in Londonderry Magistrates' Court today, Thursday 13 February, almost one year on from the journalist's death.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and professing to be a member of a proscribed organisation. Police say he is from the L'Derry area.

Lyra was just 29 years-old when she was gunned down during a night of dissident republican rioting last April.

The Belfast woman had signed a two-year book deal and was regarded by many as a rising star in local journalism.

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said: "I have always said a number of individuals were involved with the gunman on the night Lyra was killed, and while today is significant for the investigation the quest for the evidence to bring the gunman to justice remains active and ongoing."
