Extra £18m For Executive Departments
The Finance Minister has allocated an extra £18 million to Executive Departments.
Education, health and roads will share in the multi-million boost this financial year.
Conor Murphy said £10 million will be used to address pressures within the Department of Education, while £5 million has been allocated to tackle salary issues for doctors and dentists.
Some £3 million was also committed to the Department for Infrastructure for road repairs, urgent street lighting and winter services.
Other changes to the Budget by Treasury include a £59 million reduction in Financial Transaction Capital for 2019/20 and a £52 million reduction in the Capital Budget which has been deferred until 2020/21.
Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon welcomed the extra investment in her Department and committed to improving road surfaces and dealing with street lighting outages.
The SDLP MLA said: "I am delighted that the Department of Finance has listened to my representations regarding the urgent need to fix our broken street lights and potholes and to ensure our roads are salted during cold weather.
"After three years without a government the people of Northern Ireland deserve delivery. These are the daily issues that matter in homes across Northern Ireland as people go about their lives. Services like these are vital to ensure communities feel safe and connected and are also a factor when people are choosing how and when they travel. This additional funding is much needed and I have asked officials to work now to get the lights back on and our road surfaces improved."
