Weapons Seized During Co Tyrone Funeral

Three men have been arrested and a number of weapons seized following a disturbance at a funeral in Strabane.

No serious injuries occurred during the incident at a church on the Melmount Road this morning, Thursday 27 February, however Stanley knives and a hatchet were among the items removed from the scene.

Police have dismissed claims that shots were fired.

Footage emerged online of the service, during which a loud noise can be heard before panic and scuffles broke out among the congregation.

A heavy police presence was established in the area and three suspects, aged 32, 17 and 22, have since been arrested.

PSNI District Commander Chief Superintendent Emma Bond said: "A disturbance did break out within the church however it was quickly addressed.

"A number of dangerous weapons were seized and we are thankful to have been able to remove these items from the streets.

"We are aware of tensions between individuals who were in attendance at the funeral and I am appealing to anyone with influence to help bring about a calm revolution to current issues."
