Rise In NI Unemployment

There has been 5,780 redundancies recorded in the past 12 months with 250 confirmed in March alone, according to the latest labour market statistics.

The figures from he Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) confirm that this is the highest annual figure recorded since 2001.

A total of 10,090 redundancies were proposed in the 12 months to the end of March, a figure that is more than double the number recorded in the previous year.

The figures confirm the Covid-19 pandemic is still affecting economic performance in the region, with employment levels remaining below pre-Covid levels, while unemployment remains above pre-Covid levels.
