Rise In NI Unemployment

There has been 5,780 redundancies recorded in the past 12 months with 250 confirmed in March alone, according to the latest labour market statistics.

The figures from he Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) confirm that this is the highest annual figure recorded since 2001.

A total of 10,090 redundancies were proposed in the 12 months to the end of March, a figure that is more than double the number recorded in the previous year.

The figures confirm the Covid-19 pandemic is still affecting economic performance in the region, with employment levels remaining below pre-Covid levels, while unemployment remains above pre-Covid levels.

NI Crime Rates Up 2.9%

Barn Owl Killed After Flying Longest Recorded Distance From Kerry To L'Derry
A barn owl, which set the longest recorded distance by flying from Kerry to L'Derry, has been killed by a car on the Limavady Road. The journey of over 220 miles as the crow flies, is almost double the distance of any previously recorded barn owl within Ireland.

Property Prices Increase
Residential property prices in Northern Ireland increased by 2% in the second quarter of 2013, from April to June. This was the second, successive quarterly increase. Land & Property Services assisted by the Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency today released the Residential Property Price Index report for Quarter 3 2013.
