David Savage Appointed New Governor Of Maghaberry Prison
A new Governor of Maghaberry Prison has been appointed.
The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) selected David Savage as the new Governor and he took up the post on Monday 03 May having served as Deputy Governor at the Prison since 2019.
Governor Savage takes over from Governor David Kennedy who has been promoted to Director of Prisons at Prison Service Headquarters.
Welcoming the appointment, Director General Ronnie Armour said: "David joined the Service in 1997 as an Auxiliary Officer and has worked his way up through various grades to this position. He has played a pivotal role in Maghaberry over the past number of years and in particular through the pandemic.
"He brings a wealth of experience to the position of Governor at Maghaberry and I have no doubt he will continue the work of his predecessor David Kennedy, in progressing the Prison as it supports and challenges the people in our care to change."

Maghaberry Prisoners Raise £4,500 For RNLI
Prisoners at Maghaberry have raised £4,500 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) using their gardening and baking skills. The money was collected through the sale of floral hanging baskets, planters and garden furniture made by prisoners in the prison gardens, and tray-bakes created in the prison kitchen and sold to staff.

Man Charged After Glenarm Shooting
Detectives investigating the incident on Feystown Road on Monday, 25 November, have charged a 41-year-old man with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and criminal damage. The accused is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, 28 November.

The Governor of Maghaberry, Stephen Davis, has died following a short illness. The Head of the Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS), Ronnie Armour, said over the past few months he had been battling his illness with "great courage and determination". He said: "The Northern Ireland Prison Service was in Stephen Davis's DNA.

53-Year-Old Dies In Custody At Maghaberry Prison
A 53-year-old has reportedly died in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced. The Department of Justice has reported that the prisoner died on Saturday 28 August, that his next of kin have been informed and that the death was not covid related.
