Talks to resume over Dublin postal strike
Talks were expected to resume today at the Labour Relations Commission in Dublin aimed at bringing together management and union representatives involved in the ongoing postal dispute in the city.
An Post have suspended 550 workers and is in the process of sealing Dublin's mailboxes following the breakdown of talks between the postal service and the Communications Workers' Union last week.
It is understood that representatives have accepted an invitation from LRC Chief Executive Kieran Mulvey to attend a further meeting today.
Previous talks brokered by the LRC, which lasted five hours, failed to reach even a framework for discussion towards a possible resolution.
The dispute, which centres on how mail is handled at the Dublin Mails Centre, has brought postal service in Dublin and the surrounding areas to a complete standstill.
An Post began sealing post boxes in Dublin centre and other areas affected by the dispute include: Dublin City and County; Bray; Carrickmacross; Castleblaney; Drogheda; Dundalk; Greystones; Kells; Navan; Tuam; and Wicklow.
All inbound and outbound international mail (including Northern Ireland) has "ceased until further notice" as have all business mail collections in the affected areas.

Postal deliveries disrupted following threat against worker
Postal deliveries were disrupted in Londonderry following a threat made against a Catholic postman who works in the Waterside area of the city. The warning was given during a phone call to the Samaritans on Sunday.

Some 115,000 postal workers across the UK have begun strike action today, Friday, 26 August, in a call for a "dignified, proper pay rise". Members of the Communication Workers Union – which represents Royal Mail Group workers – have started a series of national strike actions.

Loyalist death threats condemned by postal unions
The Royal Mail have confirmed that they are treating loyalist death threats made against postal workers in Belfast seriously. Postal unions have condemned the threats and the Royal Mail are understood to be in discussions with police to increase security for postal workers. It is reported that two of the employees threatened are managers.

Talks to resolve postal strike move to London
After almost two weeks of an unofficial postal strike in Belfast, talks to try to resolve the dispute are now being moved to London. This follows a failed attempt to hold face-to-face talks between Royal Mail and the Workers Union yesterday, after management refused to attend due to the presence of CWU representatives.
