62-Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty In Connection With 'Brutal Domestic Incident'
A 62-year-old man has been sentenced to almost 7 years at Belfast Crown Court after pleading guilty to a number of sexual offences in connection with a brutal domestic incident in May 2020.
Detectives from the PSNI's Public Protection Branch (PPB) welcomed the 6 years and 9 months sentence – half to be served in prison and half on licence – handed down to the man after he pleaded guilty to Rape, Attempted Rape, Sexual Assault by Penetration and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
Detective Constable Adams from PPB said: "No one should feel unsafe in their own home or with their partner, and this sentence sends the message to perpetrators of abuse that there are consequences and penalties for violent and abusive actions within relationships.
"Domestic abuse is a terrifying crime that can affect anyone. It takes a lot of strength and fortitude to come forward and make a complaint, and to see that complaint through the criminal justice system. The abuse survivor in this case has displayed enormous courage throughout.
"To anyone currently suffering, please come and talk to us. We are here to help you. We will treat you with sensitivity and respect and help you explore your options to get justice."

Police can be contacted by calling 101, or in an emergency by calling 999.
