54-Year-Old Man Sentenced Over Historical Sexual Abuse
A 54-year-old man has been sentenced for a number of historical sexual abuse offences against a child.
Williams Adams was convicted of a number of offences that occurred with he was a teenager.
Welcoming the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Gary McDonald from Police Service of Northern Ireland's Public Protection Branch said: "The victim in this case, who was a younger teenager when the offences occurred, showed immense fortitude and determination in bringing Adams before the courts to answer for his crimes.
"While today's sentencing will, of course, never undo his horrendous actions, I hope this outcome will not only bring a degree of closure to the victim, but also encourage others who have experienced any form of sexual abuse to come forward and contact the police. It is never too late to make a report.
"If you have been a victim of sexual abuse, please lift the phone and call us, you will be dealt with sensitively and your report will be thoroughly investigated by a dedicated team of detectives.
"We remain determined to bring anyone involved in any form of abuse before the courts to answer for their crimes, no matter when they occurred."
