Local football takes centre stage again

Local football took centre stage again today following the draw for the finals of Uefa's European Under-17 Championship.

Northern Ireland's under-17 side beat all the odds recently by becoming one of the eight teams to qualify for the tournament in France out of a possible 52 nations.

Kenny Shiels' side, who beat Belgium, Scotland and Belarus in the mini-qualifying tournament, will now face the host nation as well as Spain and Turkey.

In the second group, reigning champions Portugal face England, Austria and Ukraine.

This summer's tournament kicks off on May 4.

IFA President Jim Boyce described the achiement by the under-17 side as another boost to local football following Wednesday 1-0 victory by the senior team over Estonia in Tallinn.

It was the international sides first victory in 16 attempts.

Defibrillator Stolen From Parked Ambulance
A privately-operated ambulance has been broken into and a defibrillator stolen when it was parked at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry. It is believed that the drivers side window was smashed on Monday. The damage and theft, which included a sat nav and two mobile phones, was not noticed until Tuesday.
