Rise In Covid-Related Deaths
The number of deaths related to Covid-19 has risen in Northern Ireland, according to the latest NISRA figures.
Thirty-one deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate were registered in the week ending 06 August 2021, bringing the total number of Covid-19 related deaths registered from the start of the pandemic to 3,046.
This represented the largest number of Covid-19 related deaths registered in one week since the week ending 12 March 2021.
Since the beginning of the pandemic to 06 August, the 75 years and over age-group accounted for almost two-thirds (64.8%) of all deaths and three-quarters (75.9%) of Covid-19 related deaths.
Over the period of the pandemic, Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon and Mid-Ulster Local Government Districts have had higher proportions of Covid-19 related deaths (12.1% and 8.2% respectively) compared with their share of all deaths in Northern Ireland (10.3% and 6.5% respectively).
Of the total 3,056 deaths involving Covid-19, 2,031 occurred in hospital, 784 occurred in care homes, 14 occurred in hospices and 227 occurred at residential addresses or another location.

Booze Killing More Than Drug Abuse
Alcohol-related deaths in Northern Ireland last year was the highest on record, a report from the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) has revealed. NISRA said that 283 people died from drink problems in 2009, up from 276 the year before and setting a new high.

A total of 218 drug-related deaths were registered in NI in 2020, the highest number of record and a continuation of an upwards trend. NI Covid-Related Deaths Pass 1,000
The number of Covid-related deaths recorded by the Department of Health has passed 1,000. Health Minister Robin Swann described the total number of deaths as a "sad milestone" and urged people to "never underestimate this virus, never assume it won't bring tragedy to your door".
